English calligraphy vs Arabic calligraphy

Everyone is attracted to beautiful handwriting. Calligraphy is an artistic handwriting. It is captivating that it proved to draws attention more than regular handwriting that would make people stop and read. It has been derived from the Greek word which is Beauty or Kallos and the second part is to write which is graphene. 

Calligraphy is having the knowledge of how the language is being written and the conventional signs that the signs of the language are being written. In addition, calligraphy is having the skills that would create ordering of the letters through various parts and with harmony. There is a consideration of the proportions between the letters and it can be very significant to the eyes of the viewers. The recognition of the composition of the word is art. The calligraphic art is not showing a sense of the word as the usual one.

Calligraphy is considered as a tradition in the Middle East and in Asia. It is considered as a major art and it is equal in importance to sculpture and paintings. 

In the West, the alphabets have been derived from the Greek alphabets and from the Latin alphabets. It has been considered as a form of literacy and thus, it has been making Calligraphy as a form of art that is a principle that everyone can learn. However, with the spread of printing in Europe that was in the mid 15th century would be showing a differentiation between the handwriting and the other forms of scripts as well as lettering. Calligraphy has even led to the development of the language in Europe as there are new words that have entered to the language along with Calligraphy that refer to it in many of the European countries and it was by the end of the 16th century. However, calligraphy has entered to Europe and appeared in the English language by the year 1613.

Most of the books that have been written in the 16th century were distinguishing between the decorative style of calligraphy and the traditional and ordinary form of handwriting. 

The printing process has always been assumed that it has led to the ending of the manuscript tradition. However, from another point of view, it has been believed that most of the books that have survived as the books of hours as the lavish devotional manuscript books that have been dated from the period that has been after the introduction of printing. 

There are some types of publications as for example the musical scores as well as the scientific notation and the small audience works would be showing how they have continued to be all handwritten very well till the 19th century. 

The phases of printing and handwriting have been influencing and affecting one another as the modern advertising that has been showing an incorporation of calligraphy. There have been several calligraphers who have designed typefaces for printing for years. 

Arabic Calligraphy 

In the 7th and the  8th centuries CE, it was the era were people started to follow Muhammad and it was the period of conquering many of the territories that come from the Atlantic shores to Sindh which is Pakistan now. With the spread of Islam, it was the period that was the spread of Arabic as a spoken and written language for the people in these new regions. The Arabic language started to be the ignite to unite people although they were different in ethnicity, culture or language. Arabic began to be the main language of religion, learning and administration. 

The Arabic script has been evolving from the Arabic current that was in the Northern Arabia.

In the writing process, the calligraphers in Arabic has been using the red pen that was having a working point cut through an angle. Moreover, this feature has been producing a very thick downstroke and then, the creating of a thin upstroke has been along with the upstroke that was created with infinity of gradation between them. The line that has been set and traced by the calligraphers us showing and reflecting a true marvel of sensitive inflection. It is also reflecting a marvel of fluidity in the words. It would be showing the communication of the master’s hand in action. There were two main scripts that were very distinct in the early Islam as the Cursive and the Kufic scripts. Cursive has been used on daily basis and the Kufic script has been used for reflecting religious and official purposes. Now, there are more than 1000 new scripts that have been developed and they were even used in the copying of the Qurʾān. But the most common type of script is the naskhī script and this script is having certain proportions between the letters and it was developed by Ibn Myqlah and Ibn Al Bawwab.
